Uttarakhand has made a significant move in boosting religious tourism by launching a comprehensive tourist package that allows pilgrims to visit the sacred Kailash peak via the Old Lipulekh Pass, now fully accessible within Indian territory. This exciting development provides devotees of Lord Shiva a more convenient and spiritually enriching journey compared to the earlier requirement of traveling to the Tibet Autonomous Region to catch a glimpse of the revered peak.
The first group of pilgrims has already completed the journey, trekking 2.5 kilometers from Gunji camp to the Old Lipulekh Pass, where they were rewarded with spectacular views of Kailash peak. Many pilgrims were moved to tears, overwhelmed by the spiritual connection to Lord Shiva.
The new tourist package offers a comfortable and meaningful pilgrimage experience with features such as:
- Helicopter rides: Scenic flights from Pithoragarh to Gunji provide stunning aerial views of Uttarakhand’s natural beauty.
- Accommodation: Pilgrims can stay at Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) facilities or local homestays.
- Itinerary: A four-night, five-day pilgrimage, including visits to other sacred sites like Adi Kailash and Om Parvat.
- Cost: Priced at Rs 80,000 per person, inclusive of GST, and available for booking on the KMVN website.
With the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Tibet Autonomous Region suspended due to COVID-19, this new route is a timely and convenient option for spiritual travelers. Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the importance of the project, both spiritually and economically, for the region.
This route is expected to draw increasing numbers of pilgrims and adventure seekers, enhancing Uttarakhand’s religious tourism while offering a life-changing journey for those seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings.
