West Indies captain Hayley Matthews etched her name in the record books during the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, claiming her 100th wicket in WT20Is. The milestone came during the match against Scotland at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. Matthews, a skilled right-arm off-break bowler, achieved the feat by dismissing Scottish opener Saskia Horley for 11 runs off nine balls.
This achievement holds special significance as it makes Matthews the second West Indies player to reach the coveted 100-wicket mark in women’s T20Is. She joins the elite club alongside Anisa Mohammed, who currently boasts an impressive 125 wickets in her career.
Matthews’ exceptional performance extends beyond her bowling prowess. She has also been a valuable contributor with the bat, scoring a total of 2349 runs in 97 innings. Her consistent all-round contributions have made her an indispensable asset for the West Indies team.
