Hezbollah Rocket Attack Hits Haifa, Israel: IDF Air Defense System Fails

The ongoing crisis in the Middle East continues to escalate as Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack targeting an Israeli military base near the northern city of Haifa. This marks the third attack on the same military position within a single day. The attack comes as Israel commemorates the first anniversary of the October 7 attack by Hamas in the country’s south.

According to AFP, the Lebanese militant group launched a barrage of “Fadi 1 rockets” at the Carmel base south of Haifa. Sirens blared throughout the northern coastal city as the IDF reported that approximately 120 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards northern Israel. Videos circulating online showcase the aftermath of the attack, revealing heavy damage in Haifa. Smoke rises above apartment buildings, and authorities are investigating the impact sites throughout the city.

Following the attack, the Israeli army acknowledged that its air defense system was unable to prevent the infiltration of all the rockets. The IDF stated that “interception attempts were made,” but several rocket impacts were identified in the area. The incident is currently under investigation by the Israeli military.

According to The Times of Israel, five people were injured as a result of the rocket impact in Haifa. Medical officials at Rambam hospital confirmed the figures. One victim is reported to be in good-to-moderate condition, while the other four sustained minor injuries. All five individuals were injured by shrapnel, and none are considered to be in a life-threatening condition. Additionally, one other individual was taken to the hospital for severe anxiety.

Footage from Haifa revealed damage to a traffic circle in the northern coastal city, caused by a direct rocket impact. Israel remains on high alert as the nation observes the first anniversary of the October 7 attack, a period of heightened tension and security concerns.
