10-Year-Old Girl Raped and Murdered in West Bengal: CCTV Footage Shows Suspect

A horrific incident has shaken West Bengal, as a 10-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped and murdered in the South 24 Parganas district. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

CCTV footage has emerged showing the accused, a 19-year-old man, picking up the victim on his bicycle. He was previously seen talking to another man in a shop before leaving on his bicycle. The girl, who had left home for a coaching class, was found dead in a secluded area a kilometer away from the Mashishamari police outpost.

The case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed the police to ensure that the culprit gets capital punishment within three months. She also urged the public to refrain from sharing disturbing videos on social media, claiming that they can negatively impact children.

The incident has triggered protests in the area, with people demanding justice for the victim. A team from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) visited the victim’s family to gather information and offer support. A group of doctors from Kolkata also visited the family to provide medical assistance.

The Calcutta High Court has ordered that the post-mortem examination of the schoolgirl be conducted at AIIMS Kalyani on Monday morning in the presence of the additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Baruipur court. This heinous crime has brought to light the urgent need for greater safety measures for children, particularly in West Bengal, and has ignited a strong call for swift and decisive action against the perpetrators.
