This film has been in development for several years. In March 2022, director David Leitch departed the project to focus on ‘The Fall Guy’ for Universal. Following Smith’s controversial incident at the 2022 Oscars, Netflix placed the film on hold. However, Smith has reestablished his A-list status and box office dominance with the recent success of ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’. Released in June, the film raked in over $404 million against a $100 million budget, proving Smith’s enduring appeal to audiences.
