King Charles III, despite undergoing cancer treatment, is set to embark on a significant royal tour of Australia and Samoa in October, as reported by the Daily Mail. The trip, kicking off on October 18th, will see the King visiting Sydney and Canberra in Australia before attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
According to sources, the King will continue his cancer treatment until the day of his departure and his doctors are comfortable with him taking a break during his time abroad. Upon his return to the UK, he will resume his treatment schedule. This nearly 50,000-km, 11-day tour between treatments is seen as a positive sign of his health and highlights his dedication to royal duties.
The tour, meticulously planned with his doctors, will involve a demanding schedule of ten engagements each day, ensuring consideration for his health and recovery. A travelling doctor will accompany the King throughout the tour, as usual. This trip is especially significant as it marks the King’s first official visit to a Realm since assuming the throne and his first CHOGM as Head of the Commonwealth.
While his wife, Queen Camilla, and advisors have urged him to slow down, the 75-year-old King feels invigorated by his work and believes maintaining his routine is beneficial for his mental well-being. Recently, King Charles was seen in high spirits at a reception celebrating the Commonwealth Diaspora, even performing a traditional Samoan dance. He is currently in Scotland, focusing on his recovery before the tour, continuing to work from his private home.
Buckingham Palace has yet to comment on the news, but the tour’s demanding schedule demonstrates King Charles’s commitment to his duties and his robust health despite his ongoing cancer treatment.
