Modi’s dedication to the celebration is evident in his words, “It is the auspicious time of Navratri and people are celebrating in different ways, united by their devotion to Maa Durga. In this spirit of reverence and joy, here is #AavatiKalay, a Garba I wrote as a tribute to Her power and grace. May Her blessings always remain upon us.” This heartfelt message underscores the unity and joy that permeate the festival.
Earlier, on the first day of Navratri, Prime Minister Modi extended his warm wishes to fellow Indians, wishing them an “auspicious” festival. He acknowledged the unique ways in which people across the country celebrate Navratri, all bound together by their devotion to Maa Durga.
Navratri, meaning ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit, is a festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine avatars, collectively known as Navdurga. The nine-day festival is celebrated with great devotion across India, involving various rituals and prayers that honor the goddess in her many forms. During the festival, devotees observe ritualistic fasts, recite shlokas dedicated to each goddess, wear new clothes, offer bhog, and clean their homes, seeking her blessings.
The festival concludes with Vijayadashami, marking the burning of effigies of King Ravana, a symbolic act of triumph over evil. The vibrant colors, traditional attire, and the infectious energy of Garba dances embody the joyous spirit of Navratri, making it a truly special time for Indians across the globe.
