National Conference Emerges Victorious in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections

The National Conference (NC) emerged as the clear winner in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The party secured a commanding lead, winning 42 out of the 90 seats in the Assembly, making it the single largest party in the Union Territory.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) maintained its strong hold in the Jammu region, winning 29 seats. However, the Congress, which had formed an alliance with the NC, saw a dismal performance, winning only six seats. Five of these seats were won in the Kashmir Valley, while the party secured just one seat in the Jammu province. The Congress had contested from 32 seats as part of the seat-sharing arrangement with the NC.

The election results indicate a clear shift in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. The NC’s victory suggests a strong wave of support for the party, particularly in the Kashmir Valley. On the other hand, the Congress’s poor performance highlights the challenges the party faces in the region. The BJP’s strong showing in Jammu further cements its position as a major force in the Union Territory.

The NC-Congress alliance is now set to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir. The coalition will need to navigate the complex political dynamics in the region and address the pressing issues faced by the people. The BJP, as the main opposition party, is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the political discourse in the coming years.
