WTTC Global Summit 2024: Shaping the Future of Travel & Tourism in Perth

Perth, Western Australia, has become the dynamic backdrop for the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) 24th Global Summit. This gathering of industry leaders, government representatives, and influential figures from across the globe is dedicated to charting the course of the Travel & Tourism sector.

During her keynote address, WTTC President & CEO Julia Simpson emphasized the importance of hosting the summit in Perth, a city renowned for its rich historical exploration, strong Indigenous heritage, and emerging reputation as a global hub for tourism innovation. Reflecting on her earlier visit to Western Australia, Simpson highlighted the critical role of Indigenous tourism, stating, “Western Australia is a shining example of how empowering Indigenous communities to tell their own stories and share their 60,000-year-old culture can create sustainable tourism opportunities, while enriching the experiences of travellers.”

Simpson further emphasized Perth’s significance as a beacon for the future of Travel & Tourism: “Perth is more than a gateway to Australia; it’s a beacon for the future of Travel & Tourism. This city has shown us what is possible when we invest in connectivity, embrace technology, and empower communities. Here, Travel & Tourism is not just a sector—it’s a resource that keeps giving, generating opportunities and economic freedom for so many.” She added, “This year, our sector is set to break all records, contributing $11 trillion to the global economy. But our vision goes beyond numbers—it’s about building a sustainable future where travel empowers local people, safeguards our planet’s heritage, and brings the world closer together.”

Over the next two days, the summit will feature renowned speakers such as U.S. Secretary John Kerry, conservation advocate Robert Irwin, and prominent executives from leading travel companies worldwide. Key topics on the agenda include destination stewardship, the influence of artificial intelligence, and the vital role of Indigenous tourism in promoting regenerative travel. With delegates from over 70 nations, the WTTC Global Summit 2024 promises to be a defining event, shaping the future of the industry while showcasing how sustainable growth can uplift local communities and protect the distinctive landscapes that make travel so remarkable.
