Get ready for another classic video game to leap from the screen to the big screen! Sega’s legendary ninja franchise, Shinobi, is being adapted into a live-action film, and it’s being helmed by the director of the adrenaline-pumping Netflix hit, ‘Extraction,’ Sam Hargrave.
Universal Pictures has snagged the rights to bring the story of Joe Musashi, the highly skilled ninja tasked with taking down evil forces, to life. This isn’t the first time Sega has dipped its toes into the live-action pool. The success of the Sonic the Hedgehog films, along with the recent box office triumph of ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ has clearly shown the potential for video game adaptations.
The film, which is still in its early stages, will see Ken Kobayashi, known for his work on the film ‘Move On,’ penning the script. Producing the movie will be a team of experienced individuals including Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, and Dmitri M. Johnson.
Hargrave, who honed his skills as a stunt coordinator for the Russo Brothers on Marvel blockbusters like ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ brings a wealth of experience in action filmmaking to the project. His directorial debut, ‘Extraction,’ starring Chris Hemsworth, was a huge hit for Netflix, leading to the development of sequels ‘Extraction 2’ and ‘Extraction 3.’
With Hargrave at the helm, ‘Shinobi’ has the potential to be a thrilling and action-packed movie. We can expect to see a blend of intense ninja combat, captivating storytelling, and stunning visuals, making it a must-watch for fans of the franchise and action movie enthusiasts alike. It’s clear that Hollywood is embracing the world of video games, and ‘Shinobi’ is poised to be another successful entry into the ever-growing genre.
