Train services through Cambridgeshire experienced significant disruptions on Wednesday, October 9th, after a fire erupted near railway tracks in Stevenage. National Rail issued a warning of “major disruption” expected to last throughout the day, significantly impacting train operations.
The fire resulted in the closure of all lines, leading to a cascade of disruptions for commuters. Many trains faced cancellations, delays of up to 90 minutes, or revised schedules. Services affected included Thameslink routes between Cambridge and London Kings Cross/Brighton, as well as between Peterborough and London Kings Cross/Horsham. LNER services were also impacted by the fire.
National Rail urged Great Northern and Thameslink passengers to avoid traveling altogether as emergency services worked to address the situation.
