OnePlus is gearing up to launch a successor to its well-received foldable phone, the OnePlus Open. According to reliable leaker Rodent950, the OnePlus Open 2 is set to debut in the first quarter of 2025, possibly under the name Oppo Find N5 in China. This follows the pattern of the original OnePlus Open, which was released as the Oppo Find N3 in China.
The excitement surrounding the OnePlus Open 2 doesn’t stop there. 91Mobile suggests that it might be the first foldable phone to feature the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, promising powerful performance. The phone is rumored to sport a circular camera module, a thickness of around 9mm, and a 2K primary display, similar to its predecessor.
Camera-wise, the OnePlus Open 2 is anticipated to boast a 50MP Sony primary camera, a periscope secondary camera, and a “mystery” third lens. This marks a potential upgrade from the existing OnePlus Open’s 48MP primary sensor, 64MP telephoto, and 48MP ultrawide lens.
It’s worth noting that these rumors have been circulating since last spring, and it’s reassuring to see some confirmation of their accuracy. Our review of the original OnePlus Open identified some areas for improvement, namely the hinge’s firmness and the size of the camera bump. Its launch is expected soon, potentially even earlier in China than in other markets.
