United Airlines Announces Major International Expansion with Eight New Destinations

United Airlines is taking flight with its largest international expansion yet, adding service to eight new destinations across Europe, Greenland, and Africa. Starting in May 2025, the airline will launch five new nonstop flights from its Newark/New York hub, venturing to locations not currently served by other U.S. airlines.

These exciting new destinations include Bilbao, Spain; Nuuk, Greenland; Madeira Island, Portugal; Faro, Portugal; and Palermo, Italy. This expansion signifies United Airlines’ commitment to offering travelers more diverse and unique travel experiences.

In addition to its Newark expansion, United Airlines is also introducing three new nonstop routes from Washington D.C./Dulles. This includes its inaugural year-round flight to Dakar, Senegal, a significant addition to its African route network. The airline will also offer new seasonal flights to Nice, France, and Venice, Italy, further enriching its European offerings.

For summer 2025, United Airlines has planned its most extensive transatlantic schedule to date, with over 760 weekly flights connecting to over 40 destinations. The airline also intends to increase direct flights from Newark/New York to Palma de Mallorca, Dubrovnik, and Athens, making it even easier for travelers to reach some of Europe’s most popular destinations.

Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances at United Airlines, emphasizes the airline’s commitment to providing choice and variety for its customers. “Our network provides the most choice and variety for our customers, whether they are looking for a relaxing seaside getaway, once-in-a-lifetime adventure travel or to explore some of the most vibrant urban escapes across the globe,” said Quayle.

United Airlines will report its earnings results on Wednesday, October 16. Investors can gain exposure to the stock through the U.S. Global Jets ETF (JETS) and Themes Airlines ETF (AIRL). Shares of United Airlines (UAL) are currently up 1.48% at $60.31. This expansion showcases the airline’s dedication to growth and its commitment to offering travelers a wider range of destinations and travel experiences.
