Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the general counsel of the banned group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and a designated terrorist by India, has once again issued threats against India’s sovereignty. In a recent video, Pannun outlined a plan to spark independence movements in states beyond Punjab, escalating his campaign for the secession of India.
This latest threat comes in response to comments made by Canada’s deputy minister for foreign affairs, David Morrison, who affirmed Canada’s support for India’s territorial integrity during a public hearing in October. Pannun’s response, titled “SFJ 2024 ONE India To 2047 NONE India,” aims to dismantle India’s unity.
Pannun, who resides in New York City, has specifically targeted Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland as the next fronts for his separatist agenda. He aims to “Balkanise the Union of India” by instigating independence movements similar to the one he advocates for in Punjab.
Further escalating tensions, Pannun has even encouraged Chinese President Xi Jinping to reclaim Arunachal Pradesh, claiming it as Chinese territory. He stated in the video, “Now is the time to order the Chinese army to take Arunachal Pradesh back.”
Pannun, a key leader in the Khalistan movement, was declared a terrorist by India in 2020 for promoting secessionist activities. He claims that India wants him dead, citing a foiled assassination plot allegedly planned by India. “The Modi regime has not faced any consequences. They have not been held accountable. Why would they stop?” Pannun previously stated to Bloomberg.
The renewed threats from Pannun have reignited concerns about the ongoing separatist movement and its potential to destabilize India. This incident highlights the complex and volatile situation surrounding the Khalistan movement and its international implications.
