Woman Dies by Suicide After Husband Couldn’t Afford Saree for Dussehra

A tragic incident occurred in Dumka district, India, on Saturday when a 26-year-old woman, identified as Sendo Devi, ended her life by jumping in front of a train at Bagjhopa village. According to police, the woman’s apparent motive stemmed from her husband’s inability to buy her a new saree for the Dussehra festival.

Sendo Devi’s husband, a tractor driver, was unable to afford the saree she had requested, leading to an argument. The woman, who was a mother of two young children, was reportedly unhappy with her husband’s financial situation and felt pressure to conform to societal expectations surrounding the festival. This emotional distress ultimately led her to take the tragic step of ending her life.

The police have confirmed that the woman’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is underway. This incident sheds light on the complex issues of domestic pressure, financial hardship, and societal expectations that can contribute to mental health struggles and tragic outcomes.
