KIOXIA, a leading provider of memory and storage solutions, is making waves at the Open Compute Project (OCP) Global Summit, taking place this week from October 15th to 17th in San Jose, CA. The company is showcasing its next-generation KIOXIA XD8 Series E1.S Data Center SSD Series with PCIe 5.0 technology, but that’s not all. KIOXIA is also demonstrating the power of Flexible Data Placement (FDP) on its KIOXIA XD Series SSDs, highlighting how this innovative feature can revolutionize data center efficiency and empower generative AI applications.
FDP, a key part of the NVM Express base specification (TP4161), grants users flexible control over data placement on an SSD. This enhanced control unlocks significant performance advantages and extends the lifespan of these crucial storage devices. At the OCP Global Summit, KIOXIA is putting FDP into action, showcasing its capabilities on its KIOXIA XD Series Data Center NVMe SSDs. KIOXIA has developed a custom plugin that enables FDP functionality within the widely-used RocksDB database. RocksDB is a popular choice for generative AI workloads, training, and cloud applications, known for its high-performance searches through vast amounts of data.
The results speak for themselves. Through rigorous testing and evaluation, KIOXIA has found that FDP not only delivers a remarkable 1.8 times the performance of the RocksDB application but also extends the lifespan of the SSD by a staggering three times. This is a game-changer for data centers looking to maximize performance and longevity while minimizing costs and environmental impact.
KIOXIA is committed to driving innovation in the data center space. In line with this commitment, the company plans to release its open-source RocksDB FDP compatibility plugin to the broader community. This move will empower developers and data center operators to harness the full potential of FDP, fostering widespread adoption and further optimizing data center operations.
The new KIOXIA XD8 Series E1.S Data Center SSD Series also supports the Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSD v2.5 specification. If you’re attending the 2024 OCP Global Summit, be sure to visit KIOXIA’s booth (A7) to witness the live demonstration of FDP’s transformative capabilities and learn more about KIOXIA’s commitment to advancing data center technology.
