Rajinikanth’s latest action thriller, *Vettaiyan*, has been making waves at the box office since its release on October 10th. The multilingual film, available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, stormed past the ₹100 crore mark in a mere four days, fueled by the festive weekend buzz and the undeniable star power of the ‘Thalaivar’. However, the film’s momentum took a hit on its first weekday, Monday, with collections experiencing a substantial decline.
Despite the dip, *Vettaiyan* has still managed to rake in a total of ₹110 crore across all languages in India over its first five days. The film’s opening day was particularly strong, registering a whopping ₹31.7 crore, with the Tamil version alone contributing ₹27.75 crore. However, collections dipped to ₹24 crore on Friday, marking a 24.29 percent drop. The film saw a slight recovery on Saturday, earning ₹26.75 crore, reflecting an 11.46 percent growth. Sunday witnessed another decline, with earnings dropping to ₹22.3 crore, down by 16.64 percent from the previous day. Monday brought a significant dip, with the film collecting just ₹5.25 crore according to early estimates.
While the film’s weekday performance indicates a possible slowdown, it’s still too early to predict its long-term box office trajectory. *Vettaiyan* continues to be a major draw, thanks to its star-studded cast, high-octane action sequences, and the widespread appeal of Rajinikanth’s persona.
The film’s audience occupancy on Monday also reflected the slowdown. According to data from Sacnilk.com, *Vettaiyan* saw mixed audience occupancy across different languages: 22.58 percent in Tamil, 17.82 percent in Telugu, and 8.30 percent in Hindi theaters.
*Vettaiyan*, directed by T.J. Gnanavel, follows the story of a police officer who employs unconventional methods to crack cases. His investigation into a drug trade leads him to uncover a web of interrelated crimes. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Dushara Vijayan, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Ritika Singh, and Rana Daggubati. Anirudh Ravichander’s music for the film has also been a major draw, with the song ‘Manasilaayo’, featuring Rajinikanth and Manju Warrier, becoming a viral sensation even before the film’s release.
Reports suggest that *Vettaiyan* was produced with a budget of ₹160 crore. Despite the recent drop in weekday collections, the film remains a strong contender at the box office, fueled by the star power of its cast and the festive season buzz. It will be interesting to see how the film performs in the coming weeks and whether it can overcome the initial weekday slump and maintain its strong box office run.
