Mars Wrigley Canada Appoints ‘Minister of Trick or Treat’ for Halloween 2024

Get ready for a frightfully fun Halloween 2024, as Mars Wrigley Canada is gearing up for the spooky season with a special appointment – a ‘Minister of Trick or Treat’! Ellen Thompson takes on this unique role, bringing the spirit of Halloween to Canadian consumers and unveiling the inaugural Mars Spooktacular Trends Report. This treasure trove of insights dives deep into consumer trends and how Canadians plan to celebrate Halloween, revealing some fascinating findings.

The report, developed in partnership with Ipsos, shows that over half of Canadians are planning to hand out candy, with Gen X leading the charge at 42%. Millennials are the most enthusiastic trick-or-treaters, eager to dress up and take their families door-to-door. Baby Boomers, however, are opting for a quieter Halloween this year.

But what about the candy? Well, Canadians are sticking with the classics, with M&M’S topping the charts as the most popular treat. MARS and SNICKERS follow closely behind, proving that chocolate reigns supreme. Gen-Z is showing a preference for fruity and sour treats, while Gen-X sticks to nostalgic classics like MARS.

To extend the fun beyond Halloween, Mars is launching the ‘No Tricks, Just Treats’ truck on November 1st. This mobile treat dispenser will be making its way to locations across the GTA and surrounding areas, offering families the chance to trade-in their unwanted ‘tricks’ for free candy. The truck’s first stops include Southlake Regional Health Centre and local fire stations in Newmarket on November 1st. It will then visit East Room in Toronto on November 2nd, followed by Trinity Community Recreation Centre in Toronto on November 2nd, and Putman Family YWCA in Hamilton on November 3rd.

As a gesture of community support, Mars will donate $1 to Food Banks Canada for every pound of unwanted items collected, up to $5,000, helping to work towards their vision of a Canada where no one goes hungry.

So, get ready for a spooky good time this Halloween with Mars Wrigley Canada, the Minister of Trick or Treat, and the ‘No Tricks, Just Treats’ truck! Stay tuned for more information on the Mars No Tricks, Just Treats truck.

This initiative builds upon Mars’ 2024 findings from the inaugural ‘Mars Tricks, Treats and Trends’ report, which explored US consumer Halloween preferences. This research is powered by Ipsos and conducted using a sample of 2,000 Canadians from the Ipsos i-Say panel. Data was collected from July 5 to July 9, 2024. The precision of the online polls is measured using a credibility interval, with results accurate to within +2.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
