Stanley Tucci Open to Reprising Nigel in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel

Get ready to revisit the glamorous world of Runway magazine, as a sequel to the iconic film “The Devil Wears Prada” is in the works, and one of the original stars, Stanley Tucci, is eager to return. In an interview with People magazine, Tucci expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “If it happens, I’d be very happy to.” While he admits that specifics regarding the story and the cast are still unknown to him, his excitement is palpable.

The 2006 film, starring Anne Hathaway, was based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel of the same name. It chronicled the journey of aspiring journalist Andy Sachs as she navigates the demanding world of fashion under the watchful, and somewhat terrifying, eye of editor Miranda Priestly, played by the legendary Meryl Streep. The film, a delightful blend of humor and heart, captured the highs and lows of ambition and self-discovery.

The sequel’s premise centers on Miranda’s continued reign at Runway, tackling the evolving landscape of the publishing industry and economic challenges. Emily Charlton, Andy’s former assistant, is now a prominent figure in the world of luxury brands.

Tucci, who played Nigel, the witty and fashion-forward writer for Runway, who guided Andy’s sartorial transformation, expressed his optimism about the possibility of the cast reuniting for the sequel, stating, “I think it’s going to be fun. Well, I’m sure it will be more than fun. I think it’s going to be a blast.” He fondly reminisced about his experience in the first film, declaring, “I’ve done almost a hundred movies, and I don’t know, a zillion television shows, but that one was something special.”

The sequel holds particular significance for Tucci, who lost his wife to cancer in 2009. He met his current wife, Felicity, through his “Devil Wears Prada” co-star, Emily Blunt, who introduced him to her sister. Tucci fondly reflects on the film’s impact on his life, stating, “The combination of David [Frankel, the director], Meryl, Annie, and now my sister-in-law, Emily, it was just the perfect combination. It was truly wonderful.”

Adding another layer of anticipation, Weisberger published a sequel novel in 2013 titled “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.” This novel picks up a decade after the original, focusing on Andy and Emily, both now top editors, and the reemergence of Miranda’s influence in their lives.

While the studio is yet to make an official announcement about the sequel, the excitement surrounding the project is undeniable. Fans of the original film are eagerly waiting for a confirmation and the chance to revisit the captivating world of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ once more.
