The pandemic prompted designer Weider Silveiro to deeply reflect on his roots. “I was afraid I might never go back,” he shared with Vogue, reflecting on his journey away from his hometown of Monte Alegre do Piauí. Leaving at the tender age of ten, he embarked on a path that led him to Brasília, Italy, and eventually Fortaleza in the Northeast before settling in São Paulo, his current home. Despite the distance, the memories of his childhood and adolescence resonate deeply, particularly those associated with the region’s vibrant festivities, like the Pau-de-Fitas and São João celebrations.
Silveiro channeled these cherished memories into his latest collection, weaving them into the brand’s traditional design codes. Checkered patterns, a sophisticated nod to the celebratory attire, grace dresses and ensembles. Layered fabrics, reminiscent of the colorful ribbons adorning the festive poles, add depth and movement. Baloon-shaped skirts and dresses echo the celebratory balloons, while a structured scarf, presented as a unique finishing touch, completes the collection.
Among the collection’s highlights, Silveiro’s dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability is evident in the intricate bobbin lace crafted by the skilled artisans of Praia do Iguape in Aquiraz, Ceará. The collection’s celebratory mood is further amplified by the soundtrack, a blend of Calcinha Preta hits and traditional forró music, reinterpreting popular melodies. With this collection, Weider Silveiro masterfully blends tradition and innovation, celebrating his heritage and offering a vibrant tribute to the cultural richness of Northeastern Brazil.
