In a recent interview with Fox News, Vice President Kamala Harris sidestepped questions regarding the Biden administration’s immigration policies, sparking debate and raising eyebrows among political observers. The interview, conducted by Bret Baier, saw Harris deflecting inquiries about the number of illegal immigrants released into the country and the reversal of Trump-era policies.
Baier pressed Harris on the Biden administration’s record on immigration, focusing on the influx of migrants crossing the southern border. Harris, however, shifted the focus towards the broader need for immigration system reform. When asked about the number of immigrants illegally in the country, Harris responded, “Bret, let’s just get to the point, ok?” “The point is that we have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired.”
Harris also addressed the reversal of Trump-era policies, such as the Remain in Mexico policy, arguing that the Biden administration had initiated legislative efforts to address immigration reform. She accused the Trump administration of blocking bipartisan immigration bills.
Baier brought up the tragic cases of Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and Laken Riley, all victims of violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants who entered the country during the Biden administration. Harris expressed her condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the need for more border agents and resources to prevent future tragedies.
Harris, however, maintained that the issue of a broken immigration system transcended the Trump administration, saying, “We’ve had a broken immigration system transcending, by the way, Donald Trump’s administration, even before. Let’s all be honest about that.” She acknowledged the system’s shortcomings, saying, “I have no pride in saying that this is a perfect immigration system. I’ve been clear. I think we all know that it needs to be fixed.”
The interview sparked considerable speculation among political analysts and prediction market traders about the topics Harris would address. While Harris focused on immigration reform, the interview also touched upon broader political themes, including the 2024 presidential election and the potential for increased voter enthusiasm among Democrats.
The interview served as a reminder of the ongoing debate surrounding immigration in the United States, and the Biden administration’s ongoing efforts to address the complex issues surrounding border security and legal immigration.
