The world of electric trucks is heating up, and with that competition comes a natural need for manufacturers to adjust pricing. In a surprising move, GMC has slashed the price of its 2025 Sierra EV Denali by a cool $10,000 compared to its 2024 predecessor. This price drop doesn’t come at the cost of features – in fact, the 2025 model boasts an even greater driving range.
While this price cut might seem significant, the Sierra EV Denali is still far from affordable, starting at a hefty $91,995. That puts it in the same price bracket as the Tesla Cybertruck and significantly higher than the Rivian R1T. So, what exactly do you get for your money?
Design: A Blend of Modern and Traditional
The GMC Sierra EV Denali aims for a more classic truck aesthetic compared to the futuristic designs of the Tesla Cybertruck or Rivian R1S. It mirrors the styling of its non-electric counterpart, featuring headlights that follow the front corners and a prominent GMC logo at the center. Large wheels and sculpted hood lines give it a sporty appearance. While not as bold as the Cybertruck, the Sierra EV Denali still manages a modern and stylish look.
Interior and Tech: Premium Luxury
Stepping inside, the Sierra EV Denali delivers a truly luxurious experience. The interior is crafted with premium stitched leather upholstery, and a large central display dominates the dashboard for infotainment purposes. This screen is reminiscent of Ford’s design, incorporating a physical volume knob that breaks the screen’s continuity. The overall aesthetic is completed with modern-looking wood panels and premium leather throughout.
GMC’s infotainment system, powered by Android Automotive, takes center stage. However, it doesn’t offer CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility, requiring you to rely on the built-in system for navigation and music. Besides the large 16.8-inch infotainment display, the driver is treated to an 11-inch digital gauge cluster.
Performance: Powerful and Capable
The Sierra EV Denali, the base model for 2025, is equipped with a dual-motor electric powertrain that delivers all-wheel drive, a hefty 754 horsepower, and 785 pound-feet of torque. It also features air suspension, along with the coveted Crab Walk feature (made famous by the Hummer EV) that allows the truck to drive diagonally by turning all four wheels in the same direction, making parking a breeze. Towing is a strong suit too, with a maximum towing capacity of 10,500 pounds. Remember, towing heavy loads in an electric truck will significantly impact range.
Range and Charging: Impressive on Both Fronts
The Sierra EV Denali doesn’t skimp on range. The base model offers an impressive 390 miles of range, exceeding the majority of electric vehicles on the market. If you’re looking for even greater range, you can opt for the Max Range version, which increases the price to $100,495 and boosts the range to a remarkable 460 miles.
Charging is equally impressive, with support for up to 350 kilowatts, ensuring compatibility with the fastest charging stations available today. GMC claims that charging at this speed can add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Price and Availability: More Affordable Options on the Horizon
While the GMC Sierra EV Denali isn’t exactly budget-friendly, GMC has plans to introduce two new trims in early 2025: the Sierra EV Elevation and Sierra EV AT4. These models are expected to be more affordable, making the Sierra EV more accessible to a wider range of buyers. We’re still awaiting details on pricing and exact release dates for these upcoming trims.
In the meantime, if you’re ready to invest in the current versions of the GMC Sierra EV, it’s available now as deliveries are underway to dealerships.
