The event, scheduled from December 1st to 10th, 2024, will mark a historic moment for Indian handball, as it will be the first time the nation hosts this prestigious tournament.

With the unwavering support of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF), the South Asian Handball Federation (SAHF), and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), India is set to welcome a constellation of handball powerhouses. Alongside the home team, the competition will feature continental heavyweights like Iran, South Korea, China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

The action will unfold at the iconic Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, where close to 200 players will battle for continental supremacy. The stakes are high, as the championship serves as a crucial qualifier for the 2025 IHF World Women’s Handball Championship in Germany and the Netherlands. Four top teams will secure direct qualification, making this tournament an intense battle for global recognition.

Originally planned for Almaty, Kazakhstan, unforeseen circumstances led to the relocation of the championship to India, presenting a golden opportunity for the nation to showcase its growing passion for handball.

“Hosting this prestigious tournament is a significant milestone for Indian handball, marking a pivotal moment in our journey to elevate the sport to new heights,” said Swapnil Jain, Managing Director of Pavna Group and a co-promoter of the WHL. “With our women’s team recently securing a bronze medal at the Asian Women’s Club Championship, we are thrilled to welcome some of Asia’s leading nations to India. This event is an opportunity to showcase India’s immense potential on the Asian stage and inspire future generations to embrace handball with passion and determination,” he added.

India will be making its eighth appearance in the Asian Women’s Handball Championship, and this home debut promises to be unforgettable. With the nation’s growing interest in handball and the exceptional talents of the Indian women’s team, this championship is poised to be a resounding success. As the countdown begins, anticipation is building for a thrilling competition that will not only showcase the best of Asian handball but also serve as a catalyst for the sport’s growth in India.
