Xizang Unveils Enticing Winter Tourism Incentives to Boost Off-Season Travel

Southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, famed for its breathtaking Himalayan vistas, ancient monasteries, and vibrant Tibetan culture, is kicking off its 2024 winter tourism initiative with a bang! This year’s “Winter Tour of Xizang” campaign, now in its seventh year, is offering a plethora of incentives designed to entice travelers during the typically quieter winter season.

Attractive Deals for Every Traveler

To attract more visitors and stimulate off-season tourism, Xizang is showering travelers with generous offers. The region is giving away 10,000 ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ domestic air tickets, 10,000 complimentary train tickets, and free accommodation vouchers at top-tier hotels. These deals are further sweetened by special vouchers tailored specifically for family vacations and senior travelers, ensuring a diverse range of travel groups can enjoy these incredible discounts.

Free Access to Iconic Attractions

To add further allure, Xizang is once again offering free admission to A-rated attractions, including the renowned Potala Palace. The Potala Palace, a majestic complex of buildings that served as the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas, is one of Tibet’s most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This free access policy applies to all A-rated attractions in the region, which are rated from 1A to 5A based on China’s tourism quality standards, with 5A being the highest rating.

A Commitment to Year-Round Tourism

The “Winter Tour of Tibet” campaign underscores Xizang’s commitment to promoting consistent tourism growth throughout the year. The latest promotional phase will run from October 15th to March 15th, 2025. To kick off the campaign, a grand event was held in Lhasa, Tibet’s regional capital, on Friday. This event saw the signing of collaboration agreements between Tibet’s culture and tourism department and several provinces and cities across China. Additionally, local travel companies formed partnerships with international tour operators from countries such as Australia, Thailand, and Germany, paving the way for a global influx of travelers.

Xizang’s Untapped Tourism Potential

Xizang boasts a wealth of tourism assets, from its awe-inspiring mountain ranges and vast rivers to its sprawling grasslands, pristine forests, and rich ethnic culture. In 2023, the region attracted an impressive 55.17 million visitors, representing a remarkable 83.7 percent increase from the previous year. The region’s tourism sector generated 65.15 billion yuan (approximately 9.2 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue, marking a 60 percent year-on-year growth. With its stunning landscapes, unique cultural experiences, and now, generous winter tourism initiatives, Xizang is poised for even greater tourism success in the years to come.
