Chennai Grand Masters 2024: Top Chess Talent to Converge in India

Following the success of the inaugural edition, which saw a record-breaking average rating of 2711 Elo, this year’s tournament promises to be even more intense.

The event boasts an elite field of eight top-ranked chess players, including the reigning World Champion, D. Gukesh, who will be looking to defend his title. World No. 3 Arjun Erigaisi, who recently triumphed at the WR Chess Masters Cup, is the top seed and will be eager to claim the coveted Grand Masters title. Other notable participants include Levon Aronian, Maxime Vachier Lagrave, Vidit Gujrathi, Parham Maghsoodloo, Alexey Sarana, Amin Tabatabaei, and Aravindh Chithambaram. The average rating for this year’s Masters section is a staggering 2729 Elo, making it one of the strongest tournaments ever held in India.

The tournament also features a Challengers section, designed to showcase rising Indian talent.
