Cyclone Dana LIVE Updates: Odisha and West Bengal Brace for Impact as Storm Intensifies

The Bay of Bengal is bracing for the formation of a cyclonic storm, named Dana, as a low-pressure area intensifies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning, forecasting the storm to potentially impact the Odisha and West Bengal coastlines by October 23. The storm is anticipated to move west-north-westwards, intensifying into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by the following day over the east-central Bay of Bengal.

IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has stated that the system is likely to evolve into a severe cyclonic storm. The agency has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for parts of Odisha, starting from October 23. Coastal regions are expected to experience significant rainfall, potentially reaching 20 centimeters on October 24-25, with the intensity possibly exceeding 30 centimeters in some locations.

To ensure the safety of fishermen and residents, pre-emptive measures are being taken. Fishermen in both Odisha and West Bengal have been advised against venturing into the sea from October 23 to 26, as rough conditions are anticipated.

The IMD has issued a pre-cyclone watch for Odisha, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh, indicating the potential for the storm’s impact to extend beyond the immediate coastal areas. As the situation evolves, the IMD continues to monitor the development of Cyclone Dana and will provide updates on its intensity, trajectory, and potential impact. Authorities in the affected states are preparing for the storm’s arrival, focusing on ensuring the safety of residents and mitigating potential damage.
