Air Botswana’s Lulu Rasebotsa Re-elected as AASA Chairperson, South African Airways’ John Lamola Named Deputy Chair

The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) has announced the leadership for the upcoming year, following its 54th Annual General Meeting. Lulu Rasebotsa, General Manager of Air Botswana, has been re-elected as AASA’s Chairperson, while Prof. John Lamola, Interim CEO of South African Airways, has been appointed as the new Deputy Chair.

The duo will serve a 12-month term, guiding the AASA in its crucial role of advocating for a thriving and sustainable air transport sector in the Southern African region. AASA’s CEO, Aaron Munetsi, emphasized the critical importance of their leadership in engaging with governments, regulatory bodies, and various stakeholders to ensure a competitive, safe, and environmentally responsible aviation industry.

The annual general assembly was hosted by FlySafair in Paarl, near Cape Town, South Africa, and drew over 200 delegates. This included representatives from airlines, airports, air navigation and weather services, aircraft and engine manufacturers, industry suppliers, and other key players. This diverse representation highlights the collective effort required to navigate the complex landscape of the aviation industry, ensuring its future growth and success.

Rasebotsa and Lamola’s combined expertise and leadership will be crucial as AASA continues to advocate for policies and regulations that promote a robust and thriving aviation industry in Southern Africa.
