Marriott Launches ‘Connect Responsibly’ Initiative to Make Events More Sustainable

Marriott Unveils ‘Connect Responsibly’ Program to Promote Sustainable Events

Marriott International has taken a bold step towards a greener future for events with the launch of its innovative ‘Connect Responsibly’ initiative. This program is designed to seamlessly integrate sustainability into event planning across the entire Marriott Bonvoy hotel network.

Empowering Organizers with Data-Driven Insights

At the heart of ‘Connect Responsibly’ is the comprehensive Meeting Impact Report, a valuable tool for event organizers looking to understand and minimize the environmental impact of their gatherings. Available post-event, the report provides detailed insights into the event’s footprint, including metrics on carbon and water usage, calculated using established industry standards. The report is tailored to each event’s location and will be offered in 11 languages, ensuring accessibility and global applicability.

Partnering with South Pole for Carbon Offsetting

Recognizing the importance of addressing carbon emissions, Marriott has partnered with South Pole, a leading expert in carbon strategies and climate solutions. Through this collaboration, Marriott will provide event clients with the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint by investing in certified carbon offset projects. Clients can explore and select from a range of projects through South Pole’s online marketplace, ensuring transparency and impact.

A Commitment to Sustainability Across the Board

‘Connect Responsibly’ builds upon Marriott’s existing sustainability initiatives and further reinforces the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Earlier this year, Marriott received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative for its ambitious emissions reduction goals, becoming the largest hospitality company globally to achieve this distinction. The company’s Climate Action Program (CAP) focuses on reducing carbon emissions at both the property level and throughout its supply chain, demonstrating a proactive approach to environmental stewardship.

Tammy Routh, Senior Vice President, Global Sales, Marriott International, stated:

“Meetings and events are important business for Marriott. Our customers are eager to participate in sustainability efforts. Connect Responsibly expands ongoing initiatives and strengthens our efforts focused on sustainability in hospitality.”

A Sustainable Future for Events

Marriott’s ‘Connect Responsibly’ program represents a significant step forward in the industry’s journey towards sustainable event planning. By providing tools and resources that empower event organizers to measure, mitigate, and offset their environmental impact, Marriott is paving the way for a future where responsible event planning becomes the norm. This initiative aligns perfectly with the growing demand for eco-conscious solutions and the increasing importance of corporate social responsibility in today’s world.
