Georgia’s Voter Roll Audit Under Scrutiny as Early Voting Surges

With record-breaking early voting underway in Georgia, a group spearheaded by former Senator Kelly Loeffler is intensifying pressure on Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to publicly disclose the findings of a voter roll audit conducted over the summer. This audit, known as the ‘SAVE audit’, aimed to identify any instances of non-citizens attempting to register to vote in the state.

Loeffler, now serving as the chairwoman of Greater Georgia, a group advocating for election integrity, asserts that millions of undocumented immigrants have entered the country since 2021, with thousands registering to vote across multiple states. She claims that Georgia voters are left in the dark about whether these individuals are casting ballots in their elections.

Secretary Raffensperger, however, maintains that the audit has been completed and there are no instances of non-citizens voting in Georgia. He emphasizes the state’s commitment to election security, stating that those who attempt to register to vote without U.S. citizenship face severe penalties, including imprisonment and significant fines.

Despite Raffensperger’s assurances, Loeffler and her group remain unconvinced. They point to examples in other states, including Virginia, Ohio, and Texas, where non-citizens were discovered on voter rolls. They argue that the delayed release of the Georgia audit raises concerns about transparency and erodes voter confidence.

Loeffler has issued a formal letter to Raffensperger demanding the immediate release of the audit results. The letter states, “If state officials want voters to trust in the process, they must stop delaying the transparency they have repeatedly promised. We call on Secretary Raffensperger to immediately release the full results of his citizenship audit – and give voters the peace of mind that only American citizens are deciding American elections.”

The ongoing debate over the voter roll audit adds another layer of complexity to Georgia’s already high-stakes 2024 election. With early voting in full swing, the focus remains on ensuring a fair and transparent process while upholding the integrity of the electoral system.
