The scenic Pachamalai Hills in Trichy district are about to get a thrilling makeover! In a bid to boost tourism and drive economic growth, the Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to establish a sprawling four-acre adventure sports zone in Top Sengattupatti village. This initiative is expected to draw adventure enthusiasts from far and wide, bringing much-needed economic benefits to the Pachamalai region and the nearby tribal communities.
The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) is spearheading this exciting project, which will feature state-of-the-art adventure sports facilities, comfortable accommodation, and an array of recreational activities. The project, estimated to cost ₹2.7 crore, is part of the Tamil Nadu Innovation Initiatives (TANII) for the financial year 2023-24.
The DRDA has earmarked approximately three acres of land for the new tourism zone, with the remaining space reserved for future expansion. Located just 10 km from Thuraiyur, the zone will prioritize the safety of visitors, ensuring a worry-free experience for all. To address the existing lack of accommodation, the DRDA will construct two eye-catching geodomes – unique hemispherical structures with the option of transparent roofs, allowing visitors to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the night sky.
Tenders for the project have already been issued, and officials anticipate that construction will be completed within nine months.
Beyond the adventure sports zone, the DRDA has also announced plans to establish a livelihood park in Top Sengattupatti, specifically for the local tribal communities. This park will serve as a platform for these communities to showcase and sell their value-added agricultural products, providing them with new avenues for economic empowerment and market access. This initiative is anticipated to be a significant boon to the community, fostering sustainable growth and economic opportunities.
Meanwhile, the DRDA has reported that construction of a bird park and aviary along the Cauvery River at Kambarasampettai near Trichy is nearing completion, with approximately 85% of the work done. However, recent heavy rains have caused some delays, particularly in the exterior beautification efforts. These delays have impacted plans to incorporate five distinct geographical themes inspired by the descriptions found in Sangam Tamil literature.
This comprehensive tourism development project in the Pachamalai Hills is set to transform the region, attracting visitors from across the country and beyond. It will not only bring economic benefits to the area but also empower local communities, ensuring a brighter future for all.
