Malaysia is set to captivate Japanese travelers with a vibrant showcase at the prestigious Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ) from September 26 to 29, 2024. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, represented by Tourism Malaysia, is leading the charge with a strong delegation headed by Dr. Yasmeen Yasim, Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism), and Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia.
The Malaysian delegation, comprising 15 members from eight organizations, is bringing a diverse range of offerings to the TEJ stage. This includes representatives from four state tourism boards, two airlines, one tour operator, and one association. The Malaysia Pavilion, spanning an impressive 90 square meters in East Hall 3, was inaugurated by H.E. Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, the Malaysian Ambassador to Japan. The pavilion serves as a showcase for Malaysia’s premier travel products, attractions, and services, promising an immersive experience for visitors.

Expect captivating stage performances by Mechamato, a presentation by the Sabah Tourism Board, captivating cultural performances, a tantalizing Malaysian food talk show, the soulful sounds of the sape, and an engaging dance and talk show by AirAsia. The TEJ platform allows Malaysia to connect with key stakeholders in the Japanese market, exploring opportunities for collaboration and strengthening its international profile.
The event will also serve as a platform to promote the highly anticipated Visit Malaysia Year (VM) 2026. Tourism Malaysia is introducing two enticing new niche packages: Edu+ (focused on Edutourism) and Unimaginable Golf Packages. These packages aim to provide travelers with immersive cultural experiences, educational opportunities, and premier golfing adventures, catering to a wide range of interests.
Malaysia’s tourism sector is experiencing remarkable growth. In 2023, the country welcomed over 20.1 million international tourists, generating RM71.3 billion in tourism receipts, exceeding its initial goal of 16.1 million arrivals. Looking ahead, Malaysia has set an ambitious target of attracting 27.3 million visitors in 2024, aiming to generate RM102.7 billion in tourism revenue. The Visit Malaysia 2026 initiative, with its ambitious goal of attracting 35.6 million international tourists and generating RM147.1 billion in tourism revenue, reflects the country’s unwavering commitment to its tourism sector and its position as a leading destination in Southeast Asia.
