Frankfurt Airport is gearing up for an exciting winter season with a newly expanded flight schedule, launching on October 27, 2024. Get ready to explore the world from Frankfurt! This winter, 79 airlines will be offering a staggering 675,000 weekly seats to 243 destinations across 93 countries – a 4% increase from last year’s schedule, which was impacted by strikes. With over 3,600 weekly flights, Frankfurt Airport solidifies its position as Germany’s premier international aviation hub, offering the most diverse range of intercontinental destinations.
A World of Possibilities Awaits:
From the tropical beaches of Thailand to the enchanting Northern Lights of Norway, from Mexico’s sunny coastlines to key US cities, and even to South Korea and other exciting destinations, the expanded winter schedule provides seamless travel experiences and enhanced connectivity. This season, there are more routes to explore than ever before.
Northern Lights and Festive Adventures:
If a trip to Northern Europe has been on your travel wish list, now is the perfect time to plan your getaway. Lufthansa (LH) is introducing flights to Rovaniemi (RVN) in Finland for the first time – a destination renowned for its breathtaking Northern Lights and as the official home of Santa Claus. Meanwhile, Discover Airlines (4Y) is adding new connections to Scandinavia with flights to Kittilä (KTT) in Finland and Alta (ALF) in Norway. These charming destinations will be served twice a week from Frankfurt Airport, just in time for the holiday season. Lufthansa will begin its flights in late November, while Discover Airlines will launch its services in mid-December.
Ibiza: A Year-Round Paradise:
For those who can’t resist Ibiza’s vibrant atmosphere, there’s fantastic news! Discover Airlines is extending its services to Ibiza (IBZ) for the winter season, making it a year-round getaway. Flights will continue every Saturday, allowing travelers to experience Ibiza’s unique charm even during the colder months.
Latin America: Unlocking New Horizons:
Frankfurt’s winter flight schedule isn’t limited to Europe. Latin America is becoming even more accessible this winter. Condor (DE) and Discover Airlines are expanding their long-haul services, providing more options for sun-seeking travelers. Condor will offer two flights a week to Los Cabos (SJD) in Mexico and will also add an intermediate stop on its route to Punta Cana (PUJ), landing in Antigua (ANU) along the way. Plus, Discover Airlines is introducing twice-weekly flights to Tulum (TQO) in Mexico starting December 12, making Frankfurt Airport the only European hub offering direct flights to this popular destination.
Strengthening US Connections:
Lufthansa is continuing its popular summer routes to Raleigh-Durham (RDU) and Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) throughout the winter season. These connections proved highly sought-after during the summer, and now travelers can enjoy seamless flights to these two US cities during the colder months.
Exploring the Far East:
Planning a trip to Asia? You’re in luck! Condor is increasing its flights to Thailand, with four weekly flights to Phuket (HKT) added to its roster since late September. These flights complement Condor’s five weekly connections to Bangkok (BKK), alongside Thai Airways’ (TG) two daily services to the Thai capital.
And it’s not just Thailand that’s getting more flights, South Korea is too! The Korean airline T’way Air (TW) will join existing services by Lufthansa, Asiana Airlines (OZ), and Korean Air (KE), offering four weekly flights to Seoul. This brings the total number of weekly connections between Frankfurt and the South Korean capital to 19.
If the Middle East is on your travel radar, Etihad Airways (EY) will be increasing its flights to Abu Dhabi. Starting in December, Etihad will offer 12 weekly flights, with plans to ramp up to two daily flights from February 2025.
Operational Changes and Terminal Updates:
A few operational changes are also in store for this winter. Vistara (UK) will be moving from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 starting October 27. By November 11, following its merger with Air India (AI), all Vistara flights will operate under Air India flight numbers. This change will see Air India offer 14 weekly flights to New Delhi and seven to Mumbai, providing travelers with more options for flights to India.
SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK), which recently joined the SkyTeam alliance in September, will also be making a terminal switch. From the start of the winter schedule on October 27, SAS will move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.
