Indian Railways Gears Up for Festive Rush: 7,000 Special Trains, New Lines, and Enhanced Connectivity

In a move to ensure smooth travel during the upcoming festival season, Indian Railways has announced plans to operate 7,000 special trains. These trains will cater to the expected surge in passenger demand during Diwali and Chhath Puja, allowing an additional 2 lakh passengers to travel daily. The decision comes in response to the anticipated influx of travelers during these festivities.

The Western Railway (WR) has already outlined its plans, confirming 2602 trips of 73 pairs of Festival Special Trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja. These trains will originate from major cities like Mumbai, Surat, Udhna, Ahmedabad, and Vadodara, connecting passengers to their destinations across the country.

Beyond the special trains, the Indian government is further bolstering the railway network with two new projects approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). These projects, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 6,798 crore, aim to increase the existing railway network by approximately 313 kilometers.

One project involves the construction of a new line, bringing connectivity to around 168 villages and a population of 12 lakh. This new line will also introduce 9 new railway stations, improving accessibility and connecting communities to the wider transportation network.

The second project focuses on multi-tracking, enhancing connectivity in two Aspirational Districts: Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur. This initiative will benefit approximately 388 villages and a population of 9 lakh, facilitating efficient transportation of essential commodities like agricultural products, fertilizers, coal, iron ore, steel, and cement.

These infrastructure projects signify a commitment to enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic growth in key regions. They will not only ease travel during the festive season but also contribute to long-term economic development by improving access to markets and resources.

The Indian Railways’ comprehensive approach, encompassing both special trains and new infrastructure developments, reflects a proactive strategy to meet the growing demand for travel during the upcoming festive season. These initiatives ensure a comfortable and efficient travel experience for millions of Indians while simultaneously strengthening the nation’s transportation backbone.
