Philippines Captures Global Attention at ITB Asia 2024 with Stunning Dive Destination Award

The Philippines is set to captivate international markets at ITB Asia 2024, Asia’s leading travel trade show, taking place from October 23rd to 25th at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. This year, the Philippines is making a strong statement with its exceptional tourism offerings and a prestigious award.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, kicked off the event by attending the ITB Asia 2024 Opening Ceremony and visiting the Philippine booth, led by the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board (TPB). The booth is a vibrant showcase of 29 participants representing travel agencies, tour operators, hotel chains, and entertainment centers from the Philippines, all eager to connect with international travel partners.

Ambassador Macaraig presented TPB Chief Operating Officer Ms. Maria Margarita Nograles with the coveted “Best Dive Destination (Asia Pacific)” award, a testament to the Philippines’ stunning marine biodiversity and exceptional diving experiences. This award, won at the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards on October 15th, 2024, further solidifies the Philippines as a premier destination for adventure-seeking divers.

The Ambassador also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Alvin Tan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry; and Culture, Community and Youth, at the Philippine booth. This meeting highlights the strong collaboration between Singapore and the Philippines in promoting tourism and cultural exchange.

At the heart of the Philippine booth is the Department of Tourism (DOT) tagline “Love the Philippines,” inviting travelers to immerse themselves in the country’s rich culture and breathtaking destinations. The booth showcases the Philippines’ diverse offerings, from the pristine beaches of Boracay to the vibrant landscape of Cebu and the historic charm of Ilocos. Every corner of the Philippines offers unique experiences catering to every type of traveler.

The design of the booth itself is a reflection of Filipino warmth and hospitality. Elegant rattan and solihiya wood panels and furniture are complemented by indigenous textiles such as yakan table runners and t’nalak throw pillow covers, showcasing the country’s rich artistic heritage.

ITB Asia features insightful discussions on emerging global trends in travel and tourism. Ms. Liz Ortiguera, Managing Director Asia-Pacific and Senior Advisor to CEO of World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), delivered a compelling keynote address on Global Trends for Sustainable Travel and Tourism. She highlighted key trends such as consumer-driven advocacy, sustainable destination management, community-based tourism, sustainability certifications, nature-positive tourism, holistic wellness experiences, celebrating local cuisine, and immersive, authentic experiences – all trends resonating with the DOT’s commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism.
