In a significant crackdown on the illegal concert ticket market, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched search operations across India, targeting individuals accused of profiting from the overwhelming demand for Diljit Dosanjh and Coldplay concerts. These raids, conducted in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Bangalore, come just hours before Diljit Dosanjh’s highly anticipated concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
This investigation, initiated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), focuses on allegations of black market activities linked to the ‘Dil-luminati’ tour and Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour.’ Announced in September, these concerts sparked a frenzy among fans, with tickets selling out in minutes. As demand surged, black market prices soared, with tickets originally priced between ₹3000-4000 on platforms like Book My Show and Zomato selling for over ₹100,000.
The ED’s actions are a response to multiple FIRs filed in various states, including one by BookMyShow against individuals suspected of exploiting concertgoers. The FIR alleges the sale of counterfeit tickets and significant price inflation, preying on the excitement surrounding these sought-after concerts. The ED has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling financial crimes and ensuring fairness in the ticketing market.
These raids serve as a crucial reminder of the risks associated with the black market and the importance of purchasing tickets from authorized sources. With concert season underway, authorities are expected to ramp up their scrutiny of ticket sales to safeguard consumers and deter illegal activities.
