On the Iranian side, President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed sorrow over the loss of four soldiers in the airstrikes, while Tehran maintained that the attacks caused only “limited damage.”
The international community has condemned the escalation, with several countries expressing “grave concern” over the recent events. The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to convene on Monday at Iran’s request to discuss the Israeli airstrikes.
The situation has also raised concerns about the potential for a wider conflict in the region. Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, expressed alarm over the escalating violence in Gaza, warning that the entire population is at risk of dying in a “genocide” that is unfolding under the international community’s watch.
The Israeli military has taken additional steps to heighten security, issuing forced displacement orders to residents in 14 towns and villages in southern Lebanon. The order instructs residents to evacuate immediately, with the implication that they will face potential harm if they fail to comply. Analysts point out that Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shia militant group, has employed “psychological warfare” by issuing unprecedented evacuation warnings to civilians in northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights.
