## Flashnet’s inteliLIGHT Smart Streetlights Power Belgium’s Ambitious Lighting Upgrade
Belgium is embarking on a transformative journey to modernize its urban landscape, and Flashnet is leading the charge. In a groundbreaking project, Flashnet, in collaboration with Itron, Lightwell, and Fluvius, is upgrading approximately 400,000 streetlight controllers across the nation. This ambitious initiative promises to not only improve energy efficiency but also enhance traffic safety and pave the way for a smarter, more sustainable future in Belgium’s cities.
This project builds on the success of Flashnet’s previous collaboration with Sibelga in Brussels, where inteliLIGHT was chosen as a key solution for modernizing the city’s street lighting infrastructure. The inteliLIGHT controllers, recognized for their high degree of interoperability, hardware, and software, seamlessly integrated with Sibelga’s existing management platforms, demonstrating vendor flexibility and smooth connectivity. These controllers are TALQ2-certified, a testament to their adherence to industry standards.
For this nationwide upgrade, Flashnet has partnered with Itron, a global leader in energy, water, smart city, and IoT infrastructure services. The core of this deployment is NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) communication technology, which provides autonomous lighting control and enables seamless integration of other advanced urban technological solutions. The use of Zhaga NB-IoT compatible luminaire controllers ensures a swift and cost-effective deployment process. These controllers are designed for easy and secure installation on any compatible lamp, facilitating rapid implementation across the country.
Managed by Itron’s smart city platform, the controllers benefit from integration via the industry-standard TALQ Smart City Protocol, further solidifying Flashnet’s commitment to interoperability and seamless third-party integration. This project exemplifies Flashnet’s dedication to creating smarter, more sustainable cities worldwide.
