According to Robert Jobson’s book, “Our King: Charles III — The Man and the Monarch,” Harry was reportedly infuriated when his father, King Charles, allegedly expressed reservations about financially supporting Meghan Markle’s lavish lifestyle.
The Duke, 40, recounted to Jobson a chilling encounter when he sought his father’s and brother’s approval before proposing to the former Suits actress. While Prince William, 42, is said to have responded with a cautious “are you sure?” King Charles’ response, however, was far from supportive. Jobson claims the monarch informed Harry that he was unable to provide additional financial backing for Meghan, citing existing obligations to Queen Camilla, William, and his family. This alleged conversation left Harry feeling deeply betrayed and fueled a growing rift between him and the senior royals leading up to their wedding on May 19, 2018, at Windsor Castle.
The book sheds light on the tumultuous events preceding Harry and Meghan’s highly publicized exit from royal life in 2020.
