## Bengaluru Airport Scam Alert: Cab Drivers Targeting Passengers with Fuel Trick
Travelers in Bengaluru are advised to be on high alert as a disturbing new scam targeting airport passengers has come to light. Shivam Sourav Jha, a techie, took to X (formerly Twitter) to expose the scheme, urging women to be particularly cautious.
The scam involves cab drivers, primarily targeting those heading to the airport, who claim they’re out of fuel and request cash payments at petrol pumps. According to Jha, drivers typically ask for ₹1000 despite the pump displaying ₹1100, threatening to halt the journey if passengers refuse, citing potential missed flights. This tactic allows the drivers to bypass Bengaluru airport toll fees while pocketing the difference from unsuspecting passengers.
Jha highlighted the scam’s impact on a woman traveling via Rapido, noting this was her second encounter with this deceitful practice. He tagged several cab aggregators to bring attention to the issue. Many passengers, sharing their own experiences on social media, expressed concern and urged caution.
“It happened to me also. But I highly recommend using the airport bus. Just book a cab till the nearest bus stand. But yes, this issue needs to be addressed,” shared one user. Another recounted, “Just on Saturday I took a cab, and he took the inner road even though I asked repeatedly to take the toll one. And that road is completely isolated and not even proper street lights are there. Completely was on alert for that whole road till reaching the airport.”
Passengers are urged to be extra vigilant when travelling to the airport. Consider alternative transportation methods like airport buses, or if opting for a cab, insist on specific routes and avoid accepting claims of fuel shortage. Stay alert and communicate any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities to ensure a safe journey.
