A tragic incident in Greater Noida has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving, leaving a community in shock and demanding accountability. On Wednesday, at around 11:45 AM, a 17-year-old driver allegedly lost control of his speeding SUV, careening into a woman walking on the roadside near the CRC Sublimis and Casa Royale road in Bisrakh. The impact was fatal, leaving the 27-year-old woman, identified as Shilpi from Jatpura, Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, dead at the scene.
Shilpi was on her way to work at a construction site when the speeding SUV, which was overtaking a tractor, veered off course. The incident was captured on CCTV footage, which clearly shows the woman walking on the side of the road, the SUV losing control, and then the devastating impact. Following the accident, the minor driver fled the scene but was apprehended by police on Friday.
The incident has sparked outrage across social media, with many expressing anger and frustration towards the reckless actions of the driver and calling for stricter penalties for underage driving and traffic violations. Numerous comments on the CCTV footage video reflect the public’s sentiment:
“EMI ka flat, EMI pe car, nalayak aulad. Hindu khatre mein hai par apni hi harkato ke karan.” (A flat and a car bought on EMIs, a useless child. Hindus are in danger, but because of their own actions.)
“Yahan ki sadko par kaale sheeshe karakar…Bina number plate ke … Jaati likh kar din raat kitni gaadiyan ghoomti hai….police tab bhi soti hi hai.” (On these roads, so many cars roam with tinted windows, no number plates, caste written on them, day and night, and the police are still asleep.)
“Nothing will happen…”
“Ladka to bhaag gaya on the spot & lady died on the spot or jis pole k paas usne mara h lady ko us pole k paas car ki takkar ek expert se kabhi ni ho sakti thi and wo road pe 40km se upar ki speed pe gaadi ni chala sakte. Or gaadi ka damage bata raha h uska speed 120km se upar h.” (The boy ran away from the spot and the lady died on the spot, or near the pole where he hit her, it is impossible for a car to collide with the pole like that from an expert, and he couldn’t be driving the car at a speed of more than 40km, and the car damage shows that the speed was over 120km).
“Parents along with minors should be hanged till death.”
“Now for god sake please don’t ask that Murder to write 500 words essay on Road Safety. If his parents thinks he is old enough to drive a car then he is old enough to be punished for murder.”
“People drive like maniacs. Yeh toh ek trailer hai. Iske jaise toh bohot hai iss area mein.” (People drive like maniacs. This is just a trailer. There are many like him in this area.)
This tragic incident underscores the need for a holistic approach to road safety, including stricter enforcement of traffic rules, awareness campaigns about responsible driving, and harsher penalties for reckless behavior. The public is demanding justice and accountability, hoping that this tragedy will serve as a wake-up call for authorities to prioritize road safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
