Mumbai grappled with a series of fire incidents on Friday, keeping firefighters busy across the city. The incidents, which occurred amidst the festive season, underscore the persistent fire safety challenges in the megapolis.
One of the most significant fires broke out on the 30th floor of the Lodha Fiorenza building located near Hub Mall in Goregaon. The fire was swiftly contained by fire brigade personnel, who arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving the call. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident.
However, in another incident, a fire that erupted in a flat on the second floor of a building in Girgaon forced three residents to jump from the window to escape the flames. The fire, believed to have been sparked by an electrical short circuit, occurred in the early hours of Friday at the three-storey Oceanic building in Hemraj Wadi of Chira Bazar area. The three individuals, identified as Kartik Mazi (26), Dipender Mandal (19), and Uppal Mandal (26), sustained injuries from their fall and were rushed to Nair hospital for treatment.
Adding to the day’s fire emergencies, a blaze ignited in a slum area in suburban Andheri, likely originating in a godown located within the slum. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident as well.
Later in the evening, a fire broke out at a ration office in the Sion area of central Mumbai. The blaze erupted around 7 pm at the ration office, located on Phoenix Road near Shanmukhanand Hall. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident.
The fire incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, especially during festive seasons when the risk of fire accidents increases due to increased electrical usage and the use of flammable materials. Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and adhere to fire safety guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future.
