The video, which surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), depicts a man claiming to be a Haitian immigrant. He alleges he intends to vote multiple times in Georgia for Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have all confirmed the video’s fraudulent origins, attributing it to Russian influence actors. Their joint statement asserts this incident is part of Moscow’s broader strategy to undermine confidence in the US electoral process and amplify divisions within the American public.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, recognizing the video’s inherent falsity, labeled it a likely product of Russian trolls aiming to destabilize the election. This incident echoes a broader pattern of foreign interference in US elections. President Joe Biden, in September, directly accused Russia of actively seeking to disrupt the 2024 election.
The concerns surrounding Russian influence are not confined to the White House. Brad Smith, vice chair and president of Microsoft Corp., also voiced warnings about potential foreign interference in the upcoming election.
