Speeding Mercedes Kills Woman in Bengaluru, Driver Arrested for Culpable Homicide

A tragic incident in Bengaluru has underscored the devastating consequences of drunk driving. On November 2nd, a 30-year-old woman, identified as Sandhya AS, lost her life after being struck by a speeding Mercedes Benz near the Kengeri Traffic and Transit Management Centre (TTMC). The driver, a 20-year-old named Dhanush, was found to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The incident unfolded as Sandhya attempted to cross the road. Dhanush, behind the wheel of the luxury car, was reportedly driving recklessly under the influence of alcohol, leading to the fatal collision. A subsequent alcometer test revealed his blood alcohol content to be 177 mg/100 ml, far exceeding the legal limit of 30 mg/100 ml.

Dhanush’s irresponsible driving didn’t end with the tragic death of Sandhya. He continued driving recklessly on the busy Mysuru Road, eventually crashing into a 23-year-old biker named Syed Arbaz. While Arbaz sustained minor injuries, Sandhya succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The Bengaluru police swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended Dhanush. He has been charged with culpable homicide, a serious offense that carries a significant prison sentence. The case was registered under sections 281, 125 A, and 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Kengeri traffic police station.

Dhanush’s father, Veera Shiva, is the owner of a private bus travel company. The luxury car involved in the accident was reportedly purchased recently. On the fateful day, Dhanush, accompanied by a friend, drove the vehicle to a mall near Yeshwanthpur and consumed alcohol before embarking on a long drive that ended in this horrific tragedy. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of responsible behavior on the roads.
