Who doesn’t love a warm, buttery scone with a generous dollop of jam? But who has time to bake for hours on end? Fear not, fellow scone enthusiasts, because we’ve got the perfect solution:
air fryer scones!
This recipe, shared by the talented cook and founder of Fat Mum Slim, Chantelle Ellem, promises fluffy, delicious scones in just15 minutes
using your air fryer. And the best part? It only requiresthree ingredients
.
The secret? Lemonade!
Yes, you read that right. This humble beverage, particularly the old-school kind, is the key to achieving perfectly light and airy scones. The citric acid in lemonade reacts with the self-raising flour, boosting the scones during cooking, making them fluffier and enhancing their flavor without the need for added sugar. So ditch the sugar and embrace the tangy goodness of lemonade!
Here’s how to make these irresistible air fryer scones:
Ingredients:
* 3 cups self-raising flour
* 1 cup thickened cream
* 1 cup lemonade (old-school lemonade works best, but Sprite is a great alternative)
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, add the flour and make a well in the center.
2. Pour the cream and lemonade into the well and gently stir to combine.
3. Dust a countertop with flour and transfer the dough. Knead until smooth.
4. Cut the dough into 16 equal pieces and shape them into scones.
5. Line your air fryer basket with a sheet of baking paper.
6. Place the scones in the basket, close together. No need to worry about spacing them out! In fact, they cook better when they’re touching.
7. Cook at 180°C (355°F) for 15 minutes.
Tips:
* Every air fryer is different, so it’s best to keep an eye on the scones as they cook. If they seem overcooked, adjust the cooking time in 2-minute intervals.
* If you prefer a sweeter scone, you can add a tablespoon or two of sugar to the dough.
* Experiment with different flavors! Add a tablespoon of your favorite jam or dried fruit to the dough for a delicious twist.
