Russia’s unyielding assault on Ukraine has escalated, with Moscow launching a new series of airstrikes that targeted major cities throughout the country. This wave of attacks, which included missiles, drones, and glide bombs, resulted in widespread destruction and casualties, highlighting the increasing ferocity of the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to social media to denounce these assaults as acts of terrorism and urged the global community to ramp up military support for Ukraine. “It is crucial for us to unite and respond decisively at the international level every time Russia attempts to devastate our lives,” he emphasized, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced aid in light of Russia’s persistent aggression.
The Ukrainian air force reported a significant overnight offensive, with Russia launching five missiles, 92 drones, and glide bombs. While Ukrainian forces managed to intercept four missiles and 62 drones, the glide bombs, which currently lack effective countermeasures, caused considerable damage.
The attacks resulted in one fatality and injuries to over thirty individuals. In Odesa, a drone strike claimed one life and injured nine others, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov. Additionally, Kyiv faced casualties when debris from intercepted missiles wounded four people, as reported by regional governor Ruslan Kravchenko.
The surge in attacks coincides with increasing challenges for Ukrainian forces in the east, where Russia has made notable advancements. Concerns are also rising in Kyiv regarding the implications of Donald Trump’s recent victory in the U.S. presidential election for future military assistance.
The UK Defense Ministry reported that Russia launched around 2,000 drones against Ukraine in October, marking a significant rise from the previous month and the third consecutive month of heightened drone activity. This represents a significant shift in Russian military tactics, with an increased reliance on drones likely becoming standard.
