Alstom Secures €15 Million Contract to Upgrade Italy’s High-Voltage Power Lines

Alstom, a leading global provider of sustainable and intelligent mobility solutions, has secured a significant €15 million contract, including potential extensions, from Terna SpA, Italy’s electricity transmission grid operator. This partnership with Iselfa Morsetteria Srl, a specialized manufacturer of clamps and high-voltage overhead power line accessories, will focus on delivering standardized terminal blocks crucial for modernizing Italy’s high-voltage power lines.

These terminal blocks serve a vital function in the distribution of electricity across the national grid. They provide secure support and maintain tension in overhead conductors, ensuring the efficient and reliable transmission of power.

The contract initially spans 24 months with an option for a further 24-month extension. This long-term commitment reflects the significance of this project for both Alstom and Terna SpA.

“We are proud to have been selected by Terna SpA for the supply of unified terminals intended for the development and modernisation of high-voltage power lines,” said Michele Viale, Managing Director of Alstom Italy. “The signing of this contract not only demonstrates the excellence of our products but also represents an important recognition for our Valmadrera site, where we invested approximately 2 million euros last year. Through our products and technologies, we are excited to contribute to the modernisation of Italy’s energy infrastructure.”

Alstom’s Valmadrera facility, with over 40 years of experience, has established itself as a leading producer of high-quality terminals, renowned for reliability and expertise. The facility serves prominent global companies in the power line infrastructure industry, meeting diverse industry-specific needs while maintaining strict adherence to international standards.

Located in the Lecco region, Alstom’s Valmadrera site plays a crucial role in manufacturing electrification components for various applications. These include catenary cantilevers and related accessories for electrifying railway systems—spanning regional, high-speed, and metro networks—as well as terminal blocks for substations and distribution networks (Terna), rigid catenary systems for metro lines, third rail and APS (ground-level power supply) for metro or tram systems, and power lines for overhead cranes.

Alstom’s contribution through this contract will be instrumental in modernizing Italy’s energy infrastructure, ensuring a more reliable and efficient power supply for the nation. The company’s commitment to innovation and its long-standing expertise in power line infrastructure solutions will be key in driving this important project forward.
