AAA forecasted a high volume of drivers hitting the roads for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, making it the second highest travel projection recorded by the organization since tracking began in 2000. Growth Energy, the leading biofuel trade association in the United States, estimates that American consumers could collectively save on fuel costs this holiday weekend by opting for Unleaded 88 (E15), a fuel blend comprising 15% bioethanol.
Growth Energy CEO emphasized the cost-saving benefits of Unleaded 88, encouraging motorists to take advantage of its environmental advantages during the summer driving season. Thanks to the Biden administration’s recent efforts to maintain year-round access to higher biofuel blends, drivers seeking financial relief at the pump can utilize this lower-carbon, more economical fuel option.
During the summer of 2022, consumers saved an average of 15 to 50 cents per gallon at the over 3,400 gas stations across the country offering E15, also known as Unleaded 88 (UNL88).
Skor added that the summer travel period can put a financial strain on many Americans due to expenses on lodging, meals, and activities. Fortunately, E15, a more affordable and widely available fuel option made possible by American farmers and biofuel producers, provides a solution.
Aside from the cost savings, E15 offers an immediate opportunity to reduce carbon emissions by as much as 17.62 million tons. Compatible with 96 percent of vehicles on the road today, it contributes to cleaner air by reducing smog-forming pollutants and lowering emissions of particulate matter by up to 50 percent compared to gasoline.
Travelers can map out their road trip and locate gas stations selling Unleaded 88 (E15) and other ethanol blends using the Fuel Finder app. To date, Americans have driven over 100 billion miles on Unleaded 88.
