New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected from Monday’s game against the Oakland A’s after questioning home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt’s call on a hit-by-pitch in the first inning. Wendelstedt told Boone he wouldn’t tolerate any more barking from the dugout and ejected him after Boone claimed he didn’t say anything.
A fan above the Yankees’ dugout may have said something inappropriate, but it was clear that Boone was following Wendelstedt’s orders.
“You’re not yelling at me, I did what I was supposed to do. You got anything else to say, you’re gone,” Wendelstedt told Boone. “I don’t care who said it. You’re gone!”
The incident highlights the need for more accountability for umpires when they make mistakes.
