After two decades with The Walt Disney Company, Aaron LaBerge, the former Chief Technology Officer, has announced his departure to join Penn Entertainment in the same capacity. This transition will take effect on July 1st, 2023.
Penn Entertainment is primarily known for its gaming operations, and this move is seen as a strategic addition to their team, especially considering their recent collaboration with ESPN to rebrand their sportsbook as ESPN Bet.
During his tenure at Disney, LaBerge oversaw several significant product launches, including the integration of Hulu into Disney+ and the upcoming debut of an ESPN streaming service. These initiatives reflect his expertise in the streaming landscape.
Jay Snowden, CEO of Penn Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm for LaBerge’s appointment: “We are delighted to welcome someone of Aaron’s caliber to our Penn executive team. His experience in leading a global organization of engineers and technologists responsible for developing some of the most successful media properties makes him the ideal candidate to guide our technology and interactive division.”
LaBerge echoed this sentiment, stating: “I am eager to contribute my experience from Disney and ESPN to making ESPN Bet an indispensable part of the sports fan experience. Together, we will innovate and redefine how fans engage with sports and gaming.”
Prior to his tenure at Disney, LaBerge held the position of EVP and CTO at ESPN from 2015 to 2018. In that role, he played a key role in designing, developing, and constructing ESPN’s cutting-edge facilities worldwide. Additionally, he oversaw the technology infrastructure for the launch of the multi-platform SEC Network.
Before joining ESPN, LaBerge co-founded and led Fanzter, Inc. from 2007 to 2012. As CEO, he directed daily operations and spearheaded the development of various consumer-focused online and mobile products, including social and commerce technologies.
