Abu Dhabi Empowers Future Innovators with AI Summer Camps

In a groundbreaking initiative to cultivate the next generation of AI experts, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has launched a series of summer camps designed specifically for high school students. These camps are more than just fun summer activities; they are a comprehensive and engaging way to introduce students to the exciting world of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential applications.

The camps, tailored for students in grades 9 to 12, offer a unique opportunity to delve into the fascinating realm of generative AI. Students will learn not only how to harness the power of this cutting-edge technology but also explore its practical applications in real-world scenarios. Through hands-on training and interactive workshops, participants will gain valuable insights into various AI-related career paths, guiding them as they consider their future in this rapidly evolving field.

One of the key initiatives is the Generative AI and Prompt Engineering Bootcamp, a collaborative effort between ADEK and 42 Abu Dhabi. This intensive four-week program, designed for students of varying learning styles and preferences, offers a deep dive into the intricacies of generative AI, providing a structured and supportive environment for young minds to explore this exciting technology.

To further expand the reach of this initiative, ADEK has organized full-day bootcamps across six schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. These intensive sessions provide students with a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, focusing on generative AI and prompt engineering. Participants engage in three targeted training sessions, each offering hands-on practice with user-friendly AI tools, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, empowering them to apply what they learn in real-world scenarios.

In addition, a customized two-hour session, conducted in partnership with Majalis Abu Dhabi, was made available at 28 different locations throughout Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, catering specifically to the educational needs of Emirati students.

Another highlight is the extensive five-day summer program organized in partnership with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). Tailored for students in grade 11, this program offers a deep dive into the diverse applications of AI, ranging from its role in film production and the burgeoning field of generative AI to the principles of responsible AI and an engaging sustainability research project. Participants benefit from a rich learning experience guided by MBZUAI’s distinguished faculty, accomplished alumni, current students, and dedicated staff, who lead workshops and provide invaluable insights throughout the program.

In a remarkable initiative, ADEK has partnered with MBZUAI to prepare four talented Emirati students for the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). This prestigious global competition, designed for high school students with a deep interest in AI, offers a platform for these young minds to showcase their skills on an international stage. Two accomplished students from MBZUAI serve as dedicated mentors, providing personalized guidance and expert insights to the team as they navigate the challenges of this highly competitive event.

The AI summer camps organized by ADEK are a testament to the organization’s commitment to fostering a passion for AI among the youth, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to become future innovators and problem solvers in this rapidly evolving field.
